Source Field

Where unfinished work can remain alive

The Source Field is where I keep material before I know what it will become.

It holds essays, field notes, field reports, research, fiction, maps, and the occasional thing that resists a category.

Some of it becomes public. Some becomes part of a book, a map, a system, or a story. Some simply waits. Waiting is part of the work. Its value exists before I know the ending.

The method

  1. 01Make contact.
  2. 02Keep the source intact.
  3. 03Notice what it touches.
  4. 04Name only what has become visible.
  5. 05Let the final form arrive later.

Public selections

The private Source Field is much larger than what appears here. Nothing becomes public merely because it has been saved. I decide what is ready, what still needs work, and what should remain held.
